The desire to travel is common among many adults. However, there are two main factors that would hinder them from traveling, that would be time and money. What if I told you that you can travel to as many countries as you like without fear? The need for English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers worldwide is increasingly high. It is a revolving industry that is always in demand. An individual is qualified and eligible to get an ESL position once he/she has completed their first degree but with a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) or Teaching English as Second or Other Language (TESOL) certification you are in the lead by miles. A couple years ago I journeyed to Japan as an ESL teacher without any certification and it was a struggle. Even though support was provided by my hiring company it wasn’t enough to cater to the challenges that were faced on a more than regular basis. As I am an individual who enjoys traveling, I have decided that the best opportunity is to teach English once more, hence the decision to take this course. In retrospect had I been equipped with TEFL certification I would have been a star in addition to my years of teaching experience. The idea of restriction to a particular country is removed because now you are certified. Let me hasten to add that a TEFL certification is now required to process documents to obtain a work visa. For persons who have never been in the classroom completing a TEFL course prepares you for classroom management related issues, lesson planning, methodologies and techniques, guidelines for choosing activities, English grammar, selecting course materials, the type of learners that you will meet and the problems that you will encounter. In conclusion completing a TEFL course is recommended once you decide to teach ESL and see the world. You will be earning while traveling which is truly the best option. You gain an opportunity to learn different cultures, be immersed in the country’s tradition, experience a different cuisine, make new friends from your own country surprisingly and other English speaking countries as well as the country that you live in.
