My goal in signing up for this class was to successfully complete an ESL/EFL course and receive a Tesol certificate. Having lived in france for 3 years and most recently in Singapore for 4 years as an Expat, I felt I lacked the ability to assist those I met on both Expat assignments in trying to learn english with valid reasons behind how our language is spoken and written. I was frustrated in not knowing how to help adults I was interfacing with understand how to speak or write better english. I would not have been successful in completing this course had I not had the understanding and patient assistance from my Tesol Tutor, Tania. With her expert opinions of what works in a classroom setting I feel very confident in what I have learned in this course. I do not have a teaching credential and although the Lesson Plans were the hardest for me to complete, I feel I have now accomplished the processes necessary to be successful in passing along what I have learned. Since I have an unlimited access visa into china, I spend much time in china with the spouses of employees of my husband's company. The spouses always want to practice their english with me. I now feel I have tools to help them learn how to speak and write english better. Besides being available to assist people in China when I visit, I will also be using this coursework to assist in a program here in our local community of San Diego. The church we attend offers ESL classes to adults who need assistance with learning more english in order to get higher paying jobs. In order to be part of this program, I needed a Tesol or equivalent certificate. I chose Tesol from ITTT after checking with friends already teaching ESL who felt your program was the best out there. Some of my friends did a multiple choice class with another company and were done much quicker than I but they didn't feel that they learned much. Even though answering all the questions was much more time consuming, I am very glad I chose ITTT. However, I would highly recommend paying the extra money to have a tutor! Tania was amazingly patient and connected to my work even though it was difficult with my travel schedule to move along as quickly as I would have liked. I plan to purchase the grammar books recommended by my tutor since my weakest area was the grammar. The Unit on resources available to ESL teacher was quite helpful in giving guidance as to how to implement all that was being taught. I look forward to becoming more confident in my abilities to assist others in learning english as I gain more experience with the process.
