First, with a short answer, it is yes. I think the learning process is a drill process. The drill process of learning is an instructional strategy; drill process is familiar to all teachers. It "promotes the acquisition of knowledge or skill through repetitive practice." It refers to small tasks such as the memorization of spelling or vocabulary words, or the practicing of arithmetic facts and may also be found in more supplicated learning tasks or physical education games and sports. Drill-and-practice, like memorization, involves repetition of specific skills, such as addition and subtraction, or spelling. To be meaningful to learners, the skills built through drill-and-practice should become the building blocks for more meaningful learning. (http://public.callutheran.edu/~mccamb/drillpractice.htm). Besides the above definitions, I am going to list out the some example of drill process of life The drilling process is a simple way to say “repeating” process. If we can learn new knowledges of any kind at the first time, it is would be the best for the learner; however, most of cases, all learners have to learned new knowledge by processing of repeating of learning. The learning can be defined as many things such as learning of English vocabularies, pronunciations, writing, mathematics, art, music, etc. From my life experiences, all those knowledge cannot master without repeating process of learning. I am going to list out example of drill process of learning on our life. When a baby is born, after a few month later the baby started to rattle of anything to make a sound, mom or dad pick up the rattle of word then make a correction to the word that mom and dad think of the right word. After the baby hears the words a repeatedly, then the baby started to make a sound similar or almost same as the mom and dad want the baby to say or rattle. The word is repeated by the baby’s parents make the baby to say the correct word. This method is the first kind drill process can be used to learning new vocabularies and phrases to learn in a classroom. It is very common practice we can observe to teach and learning any language. First, the most important skill to learn is pronunciations new English vocabulary, since English does not pronounce as it spells. Student need to memorize the pronunciation of vocabulary by repeating after the teacher or a device or person with correct pronunciations. This does not just give correct pronounciation but it gives a confident to the leaner in order to speak without thinking. Besides, make the word sound, learning English grammar is very confusing because the rules are not same as they are used with their own language. Grammar is like a culture of the language because they speak without thinking it’s grammars. Students need a drill process such as active voice verse passive voice, homophones, verb tenses, punctuations, etc. The student should drill on this kind exercise by on paper first then verbal exercise before the class and end of class regularly in order to get used with grammars. After repeating practice of grammars and vocabulary, the student need to make conversation in English, students need to repeat practice of English phrase with teacher and among student. The purpose of drill is make students to speak without fear of speaking new languages. Besides language, when students are learning mathematic of any level, the students need to keep on practice of any mathematic by repeating or drilling of mathematic by different questions. Math drills are sets of math questions that help students improve their accuracy and speed. However, math drills should be timed, or even if they aren't, the goal is to complete it quickly and accurately, the math drill makes students to get used with problem solving without fear. Another example of drilling process to learning is learning music. When any learner want to learn sing, dance or move, listen to music and/or play music, the leaner must go thru the drill process to higher level of music. Let me share my experience of learning new language through drill process. I have started to learning a new language; however, I kept forgetting anything I learned after 20 minutes of lesson every time. After I did not see any progress, I was ready to quit but I got encouraged by an 80 years old man who is learning English for the first time. He said if he pours water to a soy bean sprouts pot. It seems like 100% of water are passing through the soy bean sprouts pot, but soy bean is still growing even thought it seems like 100 % water pass-through but some water were absorbed by the sprouts and make the soy bean sprouts to grow. Since the soy bean takes very little of water to grow and cannot reserve any water for future use; however watering regularly is very important to let it grow. It is very important to watering regularly to soy bean sprout to grow, this is an example of drilling process that I have been used. Keep watering regularly or repeatedly then the soy bean sprouts will continue to grow. I do believe the drill process is the one of the most effective way to teach English to foreign language learners. When I plan to teach English to foreign language learner, I will emphasize the repeatedly study and practice every day or whenever they have chance for the same words and phrase with partner of the leaner’s choice. At the beginning they will felt there is no progress but after the drilling process or repeat process, the learner will find out how much the know if the leaner has a chance to use English.
