Our TEFL certification courses are certainly demanding; however, we do everything within our power to encourage TEFL students to pass the course and to promptly acquire a teaching job abroad.
The course is divided into six main areas:
1. Teaching practice
This fundamental part of the course allows you to practice your teaching skills under the guidance of a highly qualified and experienced trainer. During these sessions you will teach real students of English using the knowledge gained through the theoretical input sessions.
2. Foreign Language Experience
This very useful part of the course puts you in the position of a language learner who is just starting out. This session is designed to create empathy between you as a teacher and the students you later teach. It should also help you to avoid making the common errors that can confuse and discourage language students.
3. Language Awareness
This important section of the course covers two main areas, grammar and phonology. The grammar sections focus on a wide variety of subjects such as the parts of speech and the English tense system. Phonology sessions take a look at areas including phonemics, intonation, word stress and connected speech.
4. Student Profile
Each trainee is given the task of working with an individual student to work on areas such as building rapport, error analysis and correction techniques. The profile consists of three meetings with the student followed by a full one-to-one lesson. To complete the profile the trainee produces a written report regarding the lesson.
5. Teaching Techniques
This component of the course covers areas such as:
- Lesson planning

6. Materials Project
To encourage creativity in the classroom, all trainees design and produce their own set of materials that can be used during the teaching practice.
