In the following document I hope to demonstrate some the advantages of using games within a classroom environment for game based language learning. With a typical course book based lesson environment the student is subjected to a series of repetitious pronunciation drills, teacher centric black board or paper based exercises, and somewhat limited interactions between themselves and the teacher. All of this can add up to one extremely boring lesson, hardly an ideal environment to foster motivation or learning. Seating arrangement is a fundamental component of classroom management. For a seating arrangement to be effective, the classroom must be organized based on what the teacher wishes to accomplish in the lesson. Increased 'on task' behavior is observed when the teacher chooses the appropriate seating arrangement for the lesson (1,2). Three common arrangements, orderly rows, clusters and the semi-circle will be examined in this paper. The positive and negative attributes of each arrangement will briefly be addressed. This paper is concerned with teaching the productive skill of writing for students of non-native English speaking countries. This is an area that has all but been ignored in the past and somewhat over looked in the field of TESOL, as administrators, teachers and students seem to be more concerned and more focused on the speaking side of the productive skills. As more and more ESL students are seeking writing help at the college and university levels, the need becomes clear for better writing instruction in the ESL classroom.
