How many of the students learning English as a foreign language have had the chance of having native teachers' I don’t believe they are that many. Lightening is the present participle of the verb to lighten describing the action of making something less heavy. A good example would be "I was lightening the load on my horse because it was exhausted." For the native Japanese speaker, English poses a couple distinct problems in pronunciation. The first being the basic pronunciation of l and r.
